Dry Macular Degeneration

Dry Macular Degeneration  various forms of macular degeneration are caused mainly due to the degeneration and the detritions of the retina. Macular degeneration causes gradual reduction in the eyesight of the people suffering from it. It is most commonly seen in elderly people, as they have a higher case of detritions in their eyesight due to age. The illness of dry macular degeneration, which is an advanced form of degeneration, occurs due to the atrophy caused in the retinal area in the pigment concentrated region of the epithelial layer slightly below the retinal region.
There is a condition of vision loss due to the loss for photoreceptors, which are used to receive and transmit light to the retina. The loss in eyesight is due to the loss of the rods and cones, which help in viewing of things through the eye. The macula present in the centre part of the retina is essential for this is where the various nerve endings are present which help in the case of concentrated or distinct vision used to concentrate on a particular object or thing. This is the same spot, which is essential for the viewing of colour vision through the eye. As far as research goes, there is no particular cure present for dry macular degeneration.
Although, high vitamin supplements are provided to improve the vision impairment caused due to dry macular degeneration. A high dose of antioxidants might also be given either to prolong the degradation or to improve the visual acuity slightly. Wet macular degeneration is also known as exudative age related macular degradation, the advanced form of this disorder causes a partial or complete vision loss due to the abnormal growth of the blood vessels present in the retina. In many cases, there is a condition in which there is a leakage of protein or blood below the layers of the macula. constant flow of blood, fluids and other body substances causes the formation of scar tissues, which in the progress of time causes irreversible damage to the membranes present in the eye tissue. There is an increased amount of damage to the photoreceptors as well, which eventually leads to a rapid loss of vision if it is left untreated. Until recently, there was no real treatment available for the case of wet macular degeneration, but now anti-angiogenesis drugs have been introduced. These drugs when administered directly into the vitreous humour of the eye can cause regression of the blood vessels that were causing changes and abnormalities in the system.http://www.biblehealth.com/macular-degeneration/dry-macular-degeneration.html
