Causes of Acid Reflux

gastroesophageal reflux disease is a disease caused due to the reflux action in the stomach. This occurs when the stomach muscles relax and the stomach acids are pushed up the esophagus.A barrier separates the esophagus and the stomach. Some changes take place in this barrier.  These changes are subject to recurring changes. The reflux action could be due to the following reasons:
  • When the lower esophageal sphincter is incompetent
  • When the esophagus throws out a  lot of gastric juices
  • When there is hiatal hernia.

This is the LPR or the laryngopharyngeal reflux, the extraesophageal reflux disease (EERD). The gastroesophageal reflux disease produces heartburn while the larynogopharyngeal disease does not show heartburn. This is known as silent reflux.

Incompetence of The Lower Esophageal Sphincter

The lower esophageal sphincter muscle is responsible for keeping a pressure wall between the contents of the stomach and the esophagus.  The muscle band of tissues monitors the lower end of the esophagus. This place is a mixture of muscles and hormones.  If this place becomes weak, then the lower esophageal sphincter does not close after the intestine throws out the contents.  At such a time, the stomach acid goes back into the esophagus.http://www.biblehealth.com/acid-reflux/causes-of-acid-reflux.html
