Chemical Symptoms of Conjunctivitis


When an acidic or an alkali substance gets into the eye, it becomes a chemical eye injury. These alkali are worse than acidic burns. If the burn is a mild one, it results in conjunctivitis, but a severe burn will actually result in the cornea getting torn. This shows an initial redness. This is normally seen only in the lower sac of the conjunctiva. Caustic alkalis like sodium hydroxide, there is a closure of the vascular area and thus there is a lot of whitishness in the eye. This results in the dead epithelial cells there sloughing.

Other Signs of Conjunctivitis

Inclusion conjunctivitis : This is a kind of conjunctivitis found in the newborn. This is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. This leads to a lot of sudden, inflammation of the eye. This normally is cured on its own.
